“In-​line and Real-​time dig­i­tal nano-​characterization tech­nolo­gies for the high yield man­u­fac­tur­ing of Flex­i­ble Organic Electronics”


Real­Nano is an ambi­tious 36-​month project that will develop novel and fast real-​time nano-​characterization materi-​als tools & method­olo­gies based on Spec­tro­scopic Ellip­som­e­try (SE), Raman Spec­troscopy (RS), Imag­ing Photolu-​minescence (IPL) and Laser Beam Induced Cur­rent Map­ping (LBIC) that will be inte­grated to in-​line R2R (Roll-​to-​Roll) Print­ing and OVPD (Organic Vapor Phase Depo­si­tion) Pilot-​to-​Production Lines (PPLs) for char­ac­ter­i­za­tion of Organic & Printed Elec­tron­ics (OE) nanolay­ers, devices & prod­ucts dur­ing their man­u­fac­tur­ing.
Real­Nano will play a major role in the Dig­i­tal Trans­for­ma­tion of the EU indus­tries since it will increase the intel­li­gence of man­u­fac­tur­ing processes for OEs and other indus­trial appli­ca­tions by demon­strat­ing a yield im-​provement up to 90%, in com­bi­na­tion to above 30% reduc­tion on wastes and resources for nano­ma­te­ri­als upscal­ing. The project’s inno­va­tions will boost the reli­a­bil­ity, effi­ciency and cost-​effectiveness of OE man­u­fac­tur­ing processes, to develop nano­ma­te­ri­als, devices and prod­ucts with a return of invest­ment less than 5 years.

Gen­eral objec­tives of RealNano:

  1. Develop rapid and real-​time nanoscale, multi– modal & scale char­ac­ter­i­za­tion tools/​methodologies for OEs
  2. Inte­grate the non-​destructive nano-​characterization tools in in-​line R2R print­ing and OVPD PPLs
  3. Develop char­ac­ter­i­za­tion Pro­to­cols and Data Man­age­ment for inter­op­er­abil­ity across industries
  4. Demon­strate the tools in indus­trial OE processes for improve­ment of qual­ity and reli­a­bil­ity of products
  5. Val­i­da­tion of OE prod­uct qual­ity and man­u­fac­tura­bil­ity on com­mer­cial applications
  6. Effec­tive Trans­fer of results to indus­try by Open Inno­va­tion (Dis­sem­i­na­tion, Train­ing, Networking/​Clustering)

The Role of BL NanoBio­med in RealNano:

Design and devel­op­ment of inor­ganic NPs for in-​vitro diag­nos­tics, Bio­func­tion­al­iza­tion of NPs for heart attack and can­cer diag­no­sis, devel­op­ment of bio­log­i­cal com­po­nents and biosen­sors devices.
BL NanoBiomed’s port­fo­lio involves one patent on fab­ri­ca­tion meth­ods on com­plex drug deliv­ery nano-​systems for sus­tain­able and con­trol­lable drug release for bio­med­ical use (PCT/​GR2012/​0100450).
